Google Reader just doesn’t do it for me

Mon, 07 Apr 2008 22:30:57 PDT
About 10 days ago I decided to give Google Reader a full go as my RSS reader of choice. I’ve been using Bloglines for way over 2 years now, and have seen many people convert to Google Reader over the past few months. So, I marked everything as read in Bloglines, exported the OPML file, and imported it into Google Reader. This process was pretty seamless. The only thing that bugged me was the order my feeds are listed in Bloglines is not the same in Google Reader. I’m guessing OPML does not su

The QuickBase Team Collaboration Blog

Mon, 07 Apr 2008 22:34:00 PDT
QuickBase, which sponsors the AppGap blog that I write for, has recently upgraded its own blog, now titled the QuickBase Team Collaboration Blog. Its goals are to provide a “resource and viewpoint from QuickBase on how online workgroup applications are improving the way we work. We cover advice and tips to help you get the most from QuickBase, relevant broader market trends, and what we are doing at QuickBase.” The blog provides a nice example of an enterprise 2.0 vendor blog. Epcot of PR

Mon, 07 Apr 2008 22:41:12 PDT
If any one non-tech company is the poster-child for the utlization of social media, it's Disney. That was clear listening to Duncan Wardle, head of Global PR for Disney Parks at the second keynote of the Bulldog Media Relations Summit today. Wardle said it is clear the future of PR will follow 4 trends: Digitization Convergence Media Snacking Social Media Wardle also agrees with many others in the forecast for video domination - in other words, going from mainstream to multistream. Just came across this list of links posted by John Bracken after he asked his readers for help in identifying the most influential books, articles, blog posts and the like about media, technology and the internet that they read in 2007. There is some very valuable material in here - articles by Henry Jenkins, dana boyd and Clay Shirky; reports on news impartiality, innovation strategies in the digital age and sharing, privacy and trust in a networked world; links to new, and not-so-new, books,

Radio vs. The Internet

Mon, 07 Apr 2008 23:00:01 PDT
By Jerry Del Colliano The new USC Annenberg Digital Future study is out and it's worth consulting for a snapshot of where traditional vs. new media stands. It provides some insight as to how the audience is changing. Some in traditional media think that radio can be fixed (just about every consolidator says so) and that even newspapers can be revived (Tribune Company's pitch). But as you'll see, competing in the digital world is far more complicated. This is from the latest USC Annenberg Digi

Marketing In The Age Of Disposable Email

Mon, 07 Apr 2008 23:05:58 PDT
Some guy named Bob probably hates me. I don't know him and he doesn't know me ... but he's the unfortunate registrant of Bob.com and has used his first name for his email address. Yup, you guessed it - that makes his email address bob@bob.com. That also happens to be the email address that I have used for the past ten years to fill out forms that require an email address that I don't want to give. For more than a decade, Bob has been getting my junk email and to tell you a truth, I feel bad ab

Could Turnout Decline In 2008?

Mon, 07 Apr 2008 23:12:17 PDT
No one is enthusiastic about supporting McCain: McCain, on the other hand, could only manage to bring in $15 million for the month -- including just $4 million from the grassroots -- moving his overall haul for 2008 to under $40 million. In other words, McCain couldn't raise in three months what Obama was able to raise just this past month alone (a fundraising month that actually represented a decline of more than a quarter from the previous month). Pitting McCain against Clinton, the Republica

The Not Yet Ready for Prime Time Candidate

Mon, 07 Apr 2008 23:13:51 PDT
by publius Patrick Ruffini sounds the alarm that McCain’s seeming increase in fundraising masks some very troubling trends: If anyone thinks McCain raising $15 million in March is good news — and crucially, just $4M of it from online and direct mail — then they’re probably part of the problem rather than part of the solution. What stands out from the announcement is the sense that they’ve thrown in the towel when it comes to fundraising for John McCain 2008. . . . They’re also taking pu
