UNCONVENTIONAL COLORS! THIS WEEK ITS SUNDAY AT SEPHORA!

Sun, 18 May 2008 18:48:16 PDT
0 Reviews Every Saturday, Kate brings you the best of Sephora as only an insider can! You should be so proud of me. I’ve been branching out. One of my Sephora co-workers (cough Ashley cough) always makes fun of me for wearing brown eyeshadow. “But I’m lazy!” I protest. Its easy to smear brown on and it still look decent when you’re tired or hung over or whatever. But I’ve been inspired but

Sexy isn’t so sweet

Sexy isn’t so sweet May 18, 2008 at 10:54 pm by Kristi Gustafson “Have you seen the prom dresses this year?” asked my colleague. “They look like something from Frederick’s of Hollywood.” Or something you’d see on Lil’ Kim on the red carpet at the Grammys. The dresses are revealing. The material drapes just so (double-sided tape a must), excessive skin is exposed and the fabrics are unforgiving. Some would call it sexy. I prefer slutty. Clothing for teens looks, well, promiscuous. It comes to

Weekend Recap

Sun, 18 May 2008 19:55:42 PDT
Had a nice weekend. We went to a lovely wedding on Saturday night for a family friend and ate lots of goodies. We went tonight to the new Moe’s near us and had more yummy food. It’s dangerous having such good burritos across the street! Excited about attending the National Stationery Show tomorrow. Should be very inspiring to see all the products and designs out there. I’m even taking a workshop on wedding trends sponsored by The Knot. I’m hoping this will help tap into the bridal market for

Podcast with an ELT recruiter

Sun, 18 May 2008 20:12:01 PDT
Joe of Zenkimchi has produced a podcast interviewing a recruiter for language schools in Korea. Recruiters generally have a vile reputation here in Korea so I’m sure this will be an interesting podcast. At 158 minutes it is rather long. Anyhow I haven’t listened to it yet, though it is queued up for my subway ride later today. This week we have one of those evil recruiters, Rowan Hall, from ESL-Planet Recruiting. He actually has a lot of background info on the current trends in the Korean

This it too good to not take the time to read and follow. CBC staff should all read it since it involves at least a couple of “expert” correspondents at Huffington Post —which as I’ve pointed out is a far-left web site that state-owned CBC Newsworld likes to source for their guest analysts and “experts” on politics. CBC on Mothers Day: informs you what moms would be paid if they were paid for their “work”

Fri, 09 May 2008 12:51:46 PDT
Let’s self-loathe. Begin now. CBC informed Canadians just now on national television (state-owned CBC Newsworld, channel 390 on my dial) that in celebration of the upcoming Mother’s Day on Sunday, we ought to look at what moms would get paid if only they were paid their due for what they apparently agree is their unpaid labors. (Ostensibly this would be paid by the state, I guess, since who else would pay mothers? What’s Layton’s position on this? Maybe we’ll find out on the CBC’s “Politi

I wonder how much John McCain’s mom got paid to raise him up

For those of you who read my blog entry yesterday about the state-owned CBC Newsworld’s coverage of Mother’s Day, here’s a YouTube video to help turn your frown upside down. (Yesterday the apparently obsessed with socialism CBC saw fit to bring up the issue of how much moms should be paid (by the state, presumably) for the “work”—the hitherto “unpaid labor”—of raising a family… or what some of us in the sensible set might call “life”. I suppose that’s how socialists view life—and motherhood—a

To bring peace to the Afghans, talk to the Taleban

Adam Holloway says that Britain’s strategy in Afghanistan is misconceived. Nato’s military presence should be reduced and the battle for hearts and minds fought more imaginatively They do not like the F-word in Whitehall, but failure stares us in the face in southern Afghanistan. by Merry The evidence is quite compelling. All plastids (photosynthetic organelles and non-photosynthetic kin) are thought to be descended from one cyanobacterium that was engulfed by one unicellular heterotrophic eukaryote approximately one billion years ago. The descendents of that host are today's green algae (and plants), red algae, and glaucophytes (a group of microscopic freshwater algae). Several other eukaryote lineages acquired plastids second-hand by engulfing a plastid-containing re
